Love you guys!

Do You Remember a Thing Called BOOK?

This is how I feel right now | source

My house lost its electricity earlier this day. We have to wait for 9 hours before it was repaired, thanks to our slow government’s customer services. Anyway, after endless hours of sleeping in the hot dry air, (11 hours to be exact; included the midnight sleep and all those short napping) with nothing else to do, I decided to search deep in my bag for a book which I brought home from college.

The book is American Gods by Neil Gaiman (read more about the book after the jump). It has been a while since I touch a real book. Not magazines and school related books. So, when I read this real book, I had this old feeling creep up in me; the urge to finish the book as soon as possible, the excitement with every turned page and the carefree feeling wandering around the fantasy world created by the author.

Then was I realized that how I much I missed reading. I remembered when I was still in the high school I will read at least two books in a month. One book could be finished in three days. My parent will provide me a special book allowance in addition to other allowances just to satisfy my addiction.

However, the older I became, the less book I read. With the workload keep increasing and my attentions were diverged by other forms of entertainment; namely internet and peer pressure (always blame others not yourself), I became less and less care about book.

People should start reading again. I don’t think internet will ever replaced books. Yes, they are expensive and quite bulky when you could easily downloaded an e-book from the internet and put it in your phone, but the always a feeling reading a conventional book that could not be replaced. I am not sure how to describe it in words, but the feeling is there.

When the last time you read book? What was it about? Do you think traditional book will be lost in time and perhaps one day we could only see it in a museum?

Oh, how I missed reading.

American Gods is such an amazing book! Filled with wild (and sometimes scary imagination). Let me extract some of it here:
Gods die. And when they truly die they are unmourned and unremembered. Ideas are more difficult to kill than people, but they can be killed, in the end.
What are the gods he talking about? Descriptions about one of the gods he found in his dream:
He was standing beside a statue of a woman-like thing: her naked breasts hung, flat and pendulous on her chest, around her waist was a chain of severed hands, both of her own hands held sharp knives, and instead of a head, rising from her neck there were twin serpents, their bodies arched, facing each other, ready to attack.
I still haven’t finished the book yet, but I think I should warn you that this is quite a disturbing book. Interesting but it will paint vivid images in your mind. If I were you, I will not read it while I'm eating.
. . . By turns thoughtful, hilarious, disturbing, uplifting, horrifying and enjoyable — and sometimes all at once - St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I know how you feel! I wrote a post about this recently, about how I am having to kind of force myself to read because I'm always distracted by other things. For about a week I managed to go to bed an hour early every day to give me time to read, but I haven't read much this week :S I agree we should all read more!

I miss reading too! I have been reading pdf version of the Shopaholic series, though. But the feel of holding a real book and the smell of the paper can never be replaced by anything else.

On another note, books in Malaysia are expensive. *sigh*

This book sounds interesting :) It was ages since I read this kind of book (if not mistaken, when I was in secondary school). I hope you can write the review after reading it.

The latest book I have finished reading is "A Mighty Heart" which I bought it in Sale by our beloved Rozella. In fact she told me that the Sale will be back soon and I am craving for more books. I have asked her if there any magical fantasy book :P

Now, I am reading a book written by Azizi Ali again titled "A Millionaire Landlord". Haha do not ask me why I pick this one but I have my own reason for choosing it (guess you know I have read a lot of his books!).

Next will be my His Dark Mastery trilogy -- Golden Compass, Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass. I am on the 3rd book! Hehe. My blog will be boring after this with my crap review on books. I know I am not good in reviewing books but who cares? :P As long as you know what that book is about and you can get yourself a copy, that is more than good. At least I can help people to get attracted to books again :)

Great weekend ahead BCD!

so, it seems like having no electricity for 9 hours is a blessing in disguise! LOL You found your lost love again which is reading. anyway, 9 hours without electricity is horrible! The worst so far in my area is 4 hours, and I was already buzzing like a bee.

Hi Blue,
First thank you so much for sticking with me and standing by me while I was having all of my connection problems! You're the best!

Now as to the book I completely understand. I love to read. I use to read all the time but rarely have time these days.

Except for when I go on the road with my hubby. That's when I buy book after book by all of my favorite authors and get caught up.

There's simply nothing that comapres to a good read!

Happy weekend:-)

P.S. glad you liked Santa!

Wow. Thank you for all these great comments!

Hi Marzie,

Congrats for winning my First Commenter contest for the second time! Wah, you are getting good at this :)

Hey, you should read something too. Just try some interesting storyline; a chick flick perhaps? Like Debbs's choice of reading; the Shopaholic series! (I will get to it later when I reply Debbs's comment :)

====

Hi Penny,

Yeah me too. I have to do some errands lately and I couldn't find the time for myself. Even my EC dropping routine seems to be a problem. But I intended to finish this book before my holiday ends. Wish me luck!

====

Hi Lady Java,

LOL. May be you should! Disaster always remind us to the forgotten :)

*Yeah, laptop problem is should be considered as disaster*

Hi Zen Ventures,

Thanks for dropping by :)

I can't wait to see Neil Gaiman's movie: Coraline!

====

Hi Debbs,

Hey, I read the Shopaholic series too! LOL. It's far from manly, but I really need my dose of laughter. Nothing better for your light reading other than a chick flick. LOL

====

Hi Charm,

Thank you so much! I will visit it after this :):)

====

Hi Faisal,

Yeah, I love to think that I could at least persuade someone to start reading again *crossing finger* but even if I don't, nothing feel better than to spread some new knowledge to others right?

It seems to me that you are attracted to fantasy books and money/business related topic. Am I right? Hehe

Happy weekend to you too! Hey, and Happy Eid'ul Adha :)

====

Hi Yan^s,

You should start reading one too! Nothing to be ashamed off. LOL

====

Hi Mystery Man,

I read all the Harry Potter series. Ha Ha. I am not the biggest fan ever, but I kinda enjoy reading it and quite sad when it ends :)

Talk about reading for school, I have to buy dozens of Chemical Engineering books each semester; I spent at least RM300 on it alone (around 100USD)

Oh, and I don't understand half of it

Hi Blue! I think this is my first visit, I would've remembered "The best shit is yet to be formed" Hahaha!

I'm always reading at least one book, but usually 2-3 at the same time. They're almost like TV shows that continue for me. I never read in a hurry. Because I'm an aspiring fiction writer, reading books has helped me more than anything.

When you finish this one, read another. I read at least one hour per day, sometimes longer, but every year, I probably read 20 or more novels.

It's good to meet you Mr.Crystaldude:)
