No matter how much I complained about this current government; on the corruptions, cronies, political motives, short term planning and no planning at all, high inflation, economy dampness, interfering in jurisdictions, government controlled medias and web sites and less people friendly, just to name the few, I still love being in Malaysia. There is a say, “hujan emas di negeri orang, hujan batu di negeri sendiri, baik lagi di negeri sendiri” (translation: Even though other countries offer much better things compare to your motherland, it is better still to live in your own country)
Today is the 51st anniversary of independence of Malaysia. I read a tweet from Milkberry asking, “does the fact that you don’t blog about Merdeka or how much you love your country make you a lesser Malaysian?”. It is a good question to be asked around. For me, I do not believe it will makes you less Malaysian, but still it is one of good ways to show your love towards your country. I do not have my own vehicle to put a flag or stickers on to show my patriotic-ness (I just have a bicycle, but the tyres are flatted and 90% of it already rusted). So, although I am in the middle of preparation of two examinations on this Wednesday and Thursday, I make sure that I spend sometimes writing this post.

I am wishing that Malaysia will continue to grow further in the sense of politic stability, equal economic distribution, with consideration of ethnics’ sensitivity, social stabilities and unity of its multiple races and religions citizens. I hope that our country will be more resistant towards problems weather from the outside or inside country, and be more vocal in voicing its opinions. I also hope that there will be improvements in environmental awareness, human rights and government openness policies among others.
Some other activities usually done in celebration of Independence Day:
Some other activities usually done in celebration of Independence Day:
- Watching concerts during the countdown (fireworks included)
- Partying all night with friends while keep in mind how hard the oldies achieved the independence (some may also said that they party for those war veterans)
- Watching the national marching at the morning of Independence Day (usually being done by kids as older people tends to take the advantage of holiday to wake up late
- Playing futsal (could also being used to celebrate New Year) and karaoke (most probably would not be a patriotic song) the whole day
- Spending holiday with friends and family in the comfort of home and watching movies all day long
- Reduce the carbon burning by spending half or third quarter of day sleeping
Other than these activities, you could also leave me a comment on how do you celebrate your Independence Day’s holiday. I am sure you would find it very amusing how people quench their thirst of creativity on how to spend their holiday. Selamat menyambut kemerdekaan yang ke 51, Malaysia!
