Love you guys!

How do you Show your Country your Appreciation?

Picture from: Urban Collective

No matter how much I complained about this current government; on the corruptions, cronies, political motives, short term planning and no planning at all, high inflation, economy dampness, interfering in jurisdictions, government controlled medias and web sites and less people friendly, just to name the few, I still love being in Malaysia. There is a say, “hujan emas di negeri orang, hujan batu di negeri sendiri, baik lagi di negeri sendiri” (translation: Even though other countries offer much better things compare to your motherland, it is better still to live in your own country)

Today is the 51st anniversary of independence of Malaysia. I read a tweet from Milkberry asking, “does the fact that you don’t blog about Merdeka or how much you love your country make you a lesser Malaysian?”. It is a good question to be asked around. For me, I do not believe it will makes you less Malaysian, but still it is one of good ways to show your love towards your country. I do not have my own vehicle to put a flag or stickers on to show my patriotic-ness (I just have a bicycle, but the tyres are flatted and 90% of it already rusted). So, although I am in the middle of preparation of two examinations on this Wednesday and Thursday, I make sure that I spend sometimes writing this post.

If you are doing a post about Merdeka or any other country’s Independence Day, do leave me a link. I will add you up in this post!

I am wishing that Malaysia will continue to grow further in the sense of politic stability, equal economic distribution, with consideration of ethnics’ sensitivity, social stabilities and unity of its multiple races and religions citizens. I hope that our country will be more resistant towards problems weather from the outside or inside country, and be more vocal in voicing its opinions. I also hope that there will be improvements in environmental awareness, human rights and government openness policies among others.

Some other activities usually done in celebration of Independence Day:
  1. Watching concerts during the countdown (fireworks included)
  2. Partying all night with friends while keep in mind how hard the oldies achieved the independence (some may also said that they party for those war veterans)
  3. Watching the national marching at the morning of Independence Day (usually being done by kids as older people tends to take the advantage of holiday to wake up late
  4. Playing futsal (could also being used to celebrate New Year) and karaoke (most probably would not be a patriotic song) the whole day
  5. Spending holiday with friends and family in the comfort of home and watching movies all day long
  6. Reduce the carbon burning by spending half or third quarter of day sleeping
Other than these activities, you could also leave me a comment on how do you celebrate your Independence Day’s holiday. I am sure you would find it very amusing how people quench their thirst of creativity on how to spend their holiday. Selamat menyambut kemerdekaan yang ke 51, Malaysia!

Hi Bluecrystaldude,

I am proud of your patriotism. I was very upset on last week when some people comments not in the mood to celebrate Merdeka this year due to the uncertainty in the government. Many people have various political sentiments and they have the right to whomever they think should run the country in their own perspective. It is democracy and we must exercise our freedom to choose. But we should put aside our political preference and stand united as Malaysian in this Merdeka day celebration. None others party flags matters, it's only Jalur Gemilang that we must uphold at all time. This is the day that we can glorify to be Malaysian regardless of gender, race or religion.

I am relief to know the younger generation like yourself think greatly of the country.

As always, this has been the third year that I brought my kids to Jln Raja Laut to watch the Merdeka Parade. This the very least that I could do to show my appreciation to those who has struggled to free and liberate us from the British. This is also the best way I can teach my children on the importance of the Merdeka to us.

Thanks for the blog and the link on Merdeka.

Good luck on your exams.

Hi Angelbaby,

Wow.. I love when you said (even though it actually typed) Happy Merdeka! I really appreciate it :D

Hi Fara,

Really? Here in USM, I do not heard any fireworks~ Miss out the day in KL or in Johor. We could just looking out through the window to see the firework. Perhaps this year economic uncertainty is bringing it down..

Hope everything will be better next year!

Hi Farah Deen,

LOL.. I also do not close my opinion on migrating. May be not permanently, but three to five years could buy me lots of experiences!

Hi Yusni MJ,

Thank you so much for the compliments. I am more than honored to receive them. In my opinion, the younger generation is more than happy to celebrate the day of our independence, it just that they are more prone to the fact that it just a celebration. Just like any other celebrations, we tend to celebrate it with a mass of entertainment whether it is a concert or a party.

I am not being hypocrite here. I also love these sort of entertainments. Nevertheless, for a day of our own independence, or should I say a birth of Tanah Melayu, I just hope that Malaysia will be better in the future. A wonderful year ahead is what I wish for.

This year some even said that Malaysia has undergoes his mid life crisis. I just hope we will past it :)

Thanks for the comment. I really hope that you will put your blog link here later. Thank you
