>> HOT NEWS THIS WEEK: Is World Getting Crazier?

Seriously, who would say something like that? Except for wars, poverty, food crisis, oil price skyrocketing, market slumming, environmental disasters and the surge of sex related crimes, the world is fine. We (at least the readers of my blog) are still alive and kicking frantically clicking through the webs. Nevertheless, we should stop for a while and reflects our world conditions. No, I am not talking about nature and how to save them again, not yet.

News 1: A Racist Grandmother

A grandmother, who has a daughter and three grandchildren, was woken three times by a group of drunken and noisy students, who were shouting drunkenly and kicking bins. The former policewoman got dressed, went outside and shouted at them:

"Why can't you go back to where you come from and make some noise there? I bet your families and neighbors wouldn't put up with it. You don't care about us and do just as you like. What gives you the right to frighten my elderly neighbors, cause damage and keep us awake at night?"

And 4 months later, she was charged for using racially aggravated threatening words. It turned out that two Asians in the group had complained to the police. In her defend:

"The last thing I am is a racist. I have a totally inclusive attitude to different races and cultures - I don't care if you are black, white, green or a Martian. Their color had nothing to do with it - it was their behavior."
Well, I am an Asian too. But I don't think what she did is racist. The 51 years-old just trying to get some sleep for God sake. This incident only shows that authorities today are willing to charged without using any common sense. Not that I agree that racism should left unpunished, we just need to consider the facts and situations before any further harm was done. Racism should be handled delicately as it is a very sensitive issue (Malaysian government, please take note).

News 2: First Man In World to Give Birth Shows His Child

"Thomas Beatie says he is just like any other normal father. But he is about as far as you could be from typical. He claims to have given birth to the child. Although born a woman, Beatie had his breasts removed and lives outwardly as a man after changing his gender to male. The 34-year-old says he retained his female sex organs because he intended to have children one day." - Daily Mail

Okay, the truth is he is still she as she still has female sex organs, but to make my writing easier, I will refer to the individual as he. I already read months ago about this news. Although he has not given birth then. The buzz of 'the miracle' never got to me because he was not born as a male, just change his gender later. Nevertheless, after I saw the pictures of his innocent daughter, my heart touched. I really hope that her parent will deliver to their daughter the news that the person who actually given her birth was her father instead of her mother.

This is not a really great news to debate with, and I do not specified my view of this matter. I just want to know what do you think about it.

New 3: What is in a name?

There are many weird names in this planet. Just check the celebrities children names. It ranges from the Moon and to the Inspector Gadget. I once wrote a post about name and pronunciation complaining about how my name is hard to pronounce. But, I will be much pleased with my name (and I am pretty sure everyone else will pleased with their name too) compared to this 9 years-old who name is Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii - for real.

That's the unfortunate appellation a girl was given by her parents - but now a New Zealand judge has ordered she should become a ward of court until she can choose a name she really likes. She is at the center of a custody battle. A family court judge cited a list of unfortunate names that he said were embarrassing or made children seem foolish among their peers.

Some names, including Fish and Chips (twins), Yeah Detroit, Stallion, Twisty Poi, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, were blocked by registration officials, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter, Midnight Chardonnay, Benson and Hedges (twins) 'and tragically, Violence,' the judge said.

And now, who said the world is getting crazier? I am sure the insanity of this world is not comparable from other planets in this galaxy. Just hope that the last shows of insanity before the world end is Paris Hilton will be married and settle down with her four kids. We all deserve that kind of insanity.

Peanut and Butter

Yesterday, I bought some water-colors, brushes and a drawing block, so that I could at least make an effort to do the ATC organized by Rizal from his Rest and Rileks blog, which remind me that I actually forgot to ask Rizal what ATC stand for. I am no art person and obviously lack the knowledge of certain art abbreviation. Though I understand what he wanted me to do. Anyway, as a shy student (or you could call me, famous - I don't really mind) I always surrounded by my friends, mostly future engineers who alienated by any form of arts. Thus, I was asked a lot of questions about why I bought those art stuffs. One of them even quoted a lecturer’s words, “Engineer is no joke, man”.

Do not worry as I am sure I did not break any engineer’s ethics. There is nothing wrong with the fact that an engineer loves art or the police love to teach kindergarten kids. For me, it is just like you how much you love to eat peanut and butter. Both are made from a different source and had a different taste, but you could not live without one of them. Everyone has a job whether he loves it or not and we for time to time do seek for another way to escape from the world insanity. Due to the time hindrance, we later call it as a hobby. For me, I love to see, hear, touch and sometimes make any form of art.

Combine it with my passion of human being interests (psychology, appearances and mind), I made a few ‘art works’ just for a laugh. Caution: Please ensure that your kid is away from the screen as some of my works are very offensive and has a high level of sexiness (and ugliness). Thank You.

The latest one is the really ugly beautiful Kanye West The Model (picture down below). Yes, I hate Kanye West but love his songs. The point is, your character will always be defined by your job. If you are a counselor or teacher, you are supposed to be friendly with kids, good manner, and should have the ability to control people's mind. If you are working as a policeman, you have to be punctual, a good and law abide citizen. If you are an artist, you must be have a style of your own, believe in yourself and keep wearing some weird unique accessories. It is the same with engineer, you should be able to understand complicated diagrams and done the work precisely.

My point is, other people perceptions should not stop you from doing something that you like. So, what you like to do for your free time? Something that is totally off from your career? What your colleague's perception towards it?

What A Day

Start of the new semester marked the arrival of a new batch of students. The fond memories of junior and senior relationship are worth remembering, especially when you are the senior – not that you are supposed to bullying the juniors, but you cannot help to show them how much you are matured, how much knowledge that you have acquired and how familiar you are to the surrounding. Thus, my wonderful school (faculty to some) has decided to do some activities to get the first year students to get close with each other, with the stuff members of the school and with other batches as well.

The first part of it was on the Friday’s night (18 July 2008) which involved only the first year students and facilitators, was called (I must warn you, it was very cliché – a reason why I should have the creative rights on it) “Intra Chemical Reaction”, how about that? Activities included a game of passing all the group members a sentence that comprised 17 similar vowel words to the group members, built a shelter from newspapers, a quiz about chemical and mathematic related questions, carrying an egg on a string of raffia rope which need to be tied around all the group members hands and a game which you have to make a string out of anything (shoe lace, shoe, handkerchief, hair, etc.) and the final length of it will be measured.

Intra Chemical Reaction:

Yes, I totally agree with you. The games all are not appropriate for a university student. But wait until you read about the next day program which are (just name a few) waiter race (passing a leaking pail from one another – must through the top of your head), torturing alive snakehead fishes by throwing it from one person to another (someone should report it to Animal Rights!), male net ball (played by the Deputy of Vice Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs, dean, deputy dean and other senior professors and doctors) throwing and catching eggs from the distance of half a netball court and a strength only required rope pulling.

The day of torture start with an early wake up, who wakes up at 8 am during Saturday? Plus, we have to stay up late the night before after the Intra Chemical Reaction to paint our batch flag. To make the matter worst, we were forced (with the indication that we are the only one who does not doing anything for our tomorrow tent decoration) by some inconsiderate female students in my school. In a move to show my rebelling self, me and some of my friends arrived half an hour late to the event. Oh, and we casually walk slowly with the flag in our bag. No one knows what the face of the devil is. Other than bias judges and rude marshals, a will-burn-your-skin day unless will goes without anything big happening.

Whether the objectives of these events were achieved or it just another way of my dean to mpress the Vice Chancellor, no one will ever know for sure. At least the food is good.

Blogging Nightmare

It feels like forever for me to get settle down. I already forgot how the 'fun' of house moving was. Anyway, I will try to online more this week. Back to blogging. Blogging is fun, especially when we are blogging about things that we love. Personally, I even have a feeling of anticipation for what other bloggers will blog about. Sometimes, you will bump into a surprise while others will come out as your expectation (not that it is a bad thing to happen though). By abiding to the expectation, we could find the safest way to describe our feeling and let it flows smoothly into others’ mind. That being said, blogging too will sometimes lead you into some terrible experiences or what I will call, blogging nightmare.

Thus, I would like to list out some of the costs for terrible experiences to other bloggers. Although it will be based on my own personal experiences, I am sure some of us had been in the same place as I am. This is the top five terrible experiences that will happen to many innocent and ignorant people out there. Please do not feel bad if your blog is in one of the categories listed, we just want to have a pleasant blogging experience here.

1. Music
Everyone loves music. Some prefer a softer balladic music, while others love the hard kicks of metal clashing, drum and guitar. For those who are putting a music player into your page, please make sure it is in the user play mode, which means that it would not play by itself. Just imagine while you are surfing the internet in the early hour, in your own room, enjoying the night (or morning), sound of its creatures and the tranquility that come along with it and then suddenly a loud banging sound come out from your computer. To make the problem worst, you are wearing a headphone at that time and your last heart attack was on the week before. Please turn your music to user control function, and if you don’t want to, just put a soothing sound or music. No one will doze off while reading your site, trust me (the music is the last factor that will cause the readers to doze off)

2. Font Size and Color

In case that you don’t know, human vision is limited (and yes, women have more parallel vision compared to men). How hard we are trying to concentrate to countless lines of words with an extremely contrast font’s color against its background, the eyes sometimes could not take it anymore. Please use a normal font size and not every word should be colorfully colored, please, we could read by ourselves, do not try to take away that ability from us.

3. Spamming

Chat box and comment box spamming are not that bad, but you do get annoyed to see the same person post several times, especially when the comments are about advertisement of their sites or goods.

4. Advertisement
I remember that I had joined a forum on this topic matter. Some said that the advertisement will divert your attention from the text, while others said that it was very annoying especially when you put an animated advertisement. In my own opinion, I think that there is nothing wrong with putting ads in your site. The reader would not certainly be going to read your post for a full 5 minutes (or at most, 10 minutes) straight. They want a few breaks in between those long texts. Not only you need to rest for 15 minutes for every hour of TV viewing, you need to rest your eyes too after a long read. The most annoying part of this is the pop up advertisement. You feel cheated as you are forced to click on their ads (and not getting pay for it) and some of them even direct the page to other site as soon as you click on it. Not a great way to great your reader, doesn’t it?

5. Unconstructive Comment
Sending hurtful comment as an anonymous is not okay. If you are going to say out loud your feeling, please be braved to face the consequences after that. A matured thinking should always be followed by a matured way of expressing it too. It would be wonderful to find some constructive comments about the related post from time to time.

I have a lot more to list out, but it will makes my post too long (one of the few nightmares for some). So, please tell me about your own bad experiences while blogging. I am sure we will have a good laugh off it and take extra caution next time. Have a nice blogging day!
