Bon Appetite!

Great Food
Picture was taken from the Internet

I just finished watching one of the most heartwarming movies I ever watched. Frankly to say, I just come to an end of one heck of movie marathon. After finally submitted one third of my design project today, I continue to watch The Time Traveler’s Wife from the night before, went out and watched Spy Next Door and back to my room and carry on with Julie and Julia. Time Traveler’s Wife was amazing, Spy Next Door was super cute filled with light comedy here and there, but the later film left me with the most mind-boggling impact, I felt in love with Julie and Julia.

The story was about two of the most important things in my life right now; food and blogging. Honestly, I never cook in my twenty two years of life before. The only thing I know is to top almost every food that I eat by melted cheese and lots of black pepper. The only recipe I know is to put slices of cheese on the top of already cooked chicken nuggets, melted it by microwave oven, and tops it with sprinkles of black peppers and lime juice. Unhealthy that might sound, I love it.

I always treat dinner as the most essential meal of the day. It is the time where we could socialize with our family and friends, enjoy the good meal and share the boring things that had happen in our life with the close one. My family always makes time for a dinner. You should too.

Before I ending this short post, let share with us your favorite food and the most savoring meal of the day. Do you enjoy your dinner as much as I do? Bon Appetite!

Law Abiding Citizen

Law Abiding Citizen, Movie poster, Movie review

My final exam is getting nearer, which means my design project (nitric acid production plant part I) almost finish. I am just waiting for our design presentation next week. And since this semester I am only taking two courses that have final exam, my days are less hectic and more fun. For example, yesterday my friends and I (including one of my lecturers) went out to watch a midnight movie, Law Abiding Citizen, starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx.

I love Jamie Foxx and I want to see more of him, but in this movie, it’s more focusing on Gerard Butler as the bad guy. Well, not really a bad guy (he kills people cruelly though, but nowadays, who doesn’t?), but he’s actually a guy who just wants to highlight the bad side of our justice system.

He tries to raise the fact that in the justice system, not always the good one wins. The system will decide which side will win the case based on how they managed to manipulate the system. Every crime need to be supported with concrete evidences and in some cases, the when the evidence is not sufficient or strong enough, the bad guy will walks free.

The movie was built around this matter and with lots of explosion and evil genius plans; it actually developed into an interesting movie. I hate the end though. It definitely deserved a better ending; the evil will prevail and the justice system will be fixed. Nevertheless, the movie is not a total disappointment and I give it 3.5 stars.

Why should you watch it?
  • There are lots of explosion, gruesome killings and Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler in it.
  • It has prison break scene, high tech bombs and military gadgets.
  • Not to forget, this movie was co-produced by Gerard Butler. Not a bad try.

(Since I am still trying to catch up with what's buzzing in blogsphere, I will discontinue few of my contests such as First Commenter linky love until further notice. Thank you.

Being Different

Greetings to all my faithful readers. I am sorry for abandoning Hot Shit Form Here for these past few weeks. I know I may have said sorry-s for the million times, but I just couldn’t say it enough. I have been occupied with my study and other extracurricular activities that I have participated in. No, my study is unfortunately still not explosive as a chemical reaction could be, but I did notice few colleagues who are walking around with a pair of jean with sprinkles of holes (Which I am pretty sure was made by strong acids that we use during experiments) on it and in one incident, I actually managed to dodge a steel-made-pump’s knob from shooting through my eyes at a very high pressure. God, I am lucky.

Nevertheless, life goes on and I will tell you more about other activities in next posts (I have lots of things to write but just don’t have enough time to spill it out one by one). Amidst of these madness, I managed to watch an award winning movie this weekend, Milk. I cried at the last moment when Harvey Milk and the mayor were shot. Let me assured you, I only cry when I am watching movies and the only movies I cried were The Great Debater, Changeling and this Sean Penn’s movie. Yes, if you notice, the movies share the same sentiment in it; about a struggle and hopes when you are being a minority (or in my case, being different).

The Great Debater is a story about a group of underdog students from a small African American college in the deep south shaped into a historically elite debate team. Meanwhile Changeling touches a subject of a mother looking for her lost son against the corrupted policemen. Which brought us to the last movie that I dropped my valuable tears (and hopefully not the end); Milk that talks about how California’s first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk, a San Francisco supervisor who was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone by San Francisco Supervisor Dan White. I am not talking about the sexual orientation differences in this post, but I will highlight more on the struggles of being different.

"And I know you can't live on hope alone, but without hope, life is not worth living" - Harvey Milk

Minority’s issues and rights are always close to my heart. Yes, I belong to the majority ethnic group in my country, but still, I will always belong to a minority when it comes to speak my mind. What I am trying to say is that I have thousands of ideas and thoughts to be shared with others, but I was afraid to see the way the community surround me will react when they hear it. Most of the ideas are considered sensitive and could easily offend others that have been clogged with so called ‘eastern values’ of living (but I am not disagree with all of the values either). Differences will make you stand out from others (here, they will call you a weirdo), if you disagree with the majority, they will say you are wrong and when you try to speak up your mind, your friends will try to shut it down because others will press negative judgments on you.

Yes, that is the main reason why I started this site. With this blog, I could reach to more open minded audiences that could listen to my ideas and give healthy feedback that I needed. I trust my readers and their impeccable intelligences that they could give me intellectual moments with them. I am tired of bottling up my thoughts which I am sure one day will be just like the steel-made-pump’s knob that shot me in a very high pressure but this time, it will shoot me right through my brain instead of my eyes. Thank you for reading this 610 (and still counting) words post. See you again next time. Till then, have a nice day!

P/S: I would like to wish one of my loyal readers, LadyJava a wonderful Happy 40th Birthday! I hope you will live a happy ever after life with your beloved friends and family. Happy Birthday LJ!

My Holiday Mood

Sitting By the Window | NotoriousRaychel

My battle with laziness has began since I can remember. The peak of it usually when I am on holiday. After all, the meaning of holiday is "rest and relax" in which I am fondly define as resting in term of mind, body and spirit. I rest my mind from making any major decision such as what I gonna have for dinner or should I wearing this white t-shirt with a long pant or short pant (which sometimes result in me not wearing anything except towel around my wrist - not like my house has any visitor during the workdays anyway, as only the maid and I in the house most of the time). Resting my body in which I rest all my muscles except (specifically) my right arm muscle for a few evil ride, if you know what I mean.

However, I did do some push and sit-up daily routine, just to drop a few sweat and I will definitely try materialize my plan (which I have been planning since the start of my holiday - a month ago) to climb the mountain that in a walking distance from my house. And in term of spirit, I usually reserve my spirit only for watching movies, reading books and for my social visit once in a week. The social visit could means hanging out with my friends or going to shopping with and rarely without my mom (I don't carry cash in holiday :). I am looking forward for that time of the week because it was the time I see a real person other than my family and not-the-myspace-facebook-friendster-human-being. That my friends, is what I call holiday. How about you?

So, last weekend, I wanted to finish my entry about my in-case-you-don't-know summer vacation, but couldn't find the right words nor times to scramble down my ideas. My grandma and her entourage which consist of my aunts, uncles and cousins went down to Johore from Kuala Lumpur (KL) to visit a sick relative and decided to stop by our home (all my relatives including my grandmother are staying in KL). Most of my cousins are around 1-4 years old and although they have their own maids with them, the unbearable noise their making are enough to drive me out from the house. Just consider this, the daily condition is, I will wake up only when the birds are singing and damn knocking on my room windows (I live in a jungle, remember?). When all those natural sounds are replaced with a crying and screaming, my ears just couldn't handle it.

I decided to call my friend, and we went to watch Kung Fu Panda. The movie is about a fat panda (is there any slim panda?) who unexpectedly picked as to be the dragon warrior and along with the Furious Five; Tigress (voice Angelina Jolie), Viper (voice Lucy Liu), Crane (voice David Cross), Monkey (voice Jackie Chan), and Mantis (voice Seth Rogen) fighting the power hunger snow leopard, Tai Lung (voice Ian McShane). Although some says that the movie offers nothing new compared to Ratatouillle and Shrek, I found it very entertaining. The cinema is filled with laughter from different races and various range of ages. I feel like we are united somehow by this film.

Then, after hanging couple hours more with my friend, I went back home just to continue watching another 4 more movies! Before going home I bought 6 DVDs (buy 5 and free 1) as I fallen for the charms of the DVD seller. I usually pay more for a good service then a less for the same stuff but from a less friendlier seller. The Onion Movie, Mama's Boy, What Happen In Vegas, Las Vegas 21 and Semi Pro. And I did watch all of them except Semi Pro that day! So, to further emphasis my holiday mood, these are the reviews for Kung fu Panda, The Onion Movie and What Happen in Vegas. I couldn't find enough time to do the rest of the movies' review. Will do it as soon as possible.

What Happen In Vegas
  • Although Diaz is not as funny as Jessica Alba in Good Luck Chuck, Kutcher and Diaz is indeed a great couple together
  • The movie was funny mainly due to Jack's best bud, Hater (Rob Corddry) and Joy's best pal, Tipper (Lake Bell) dialogs and actions
  • For pervert normal people out there, you could see Kucther in his boxer and Diaz in her bra - nice (evil grin)
(for the rest of Party, Sex, Gamble and Married in Vegas review, please visit my other blog, My Little Black Pot)

The Onion Movie
  • It plays on (and sometimes cross) the line of racist, sexual exploitation, gay issues and handicaps. You must always keep it close to your mind that this is a fake news
  • The funniness of it just last for a few second. You want to laugh but before you know it already not funny anymore
  • It fills with stupidity. Enough said
(for the rest A Smelly Onion review, please visit my other blog, My Little Black Pot)

Kung Fu Panda
  • I never been quite a Jack Black's fan. Okay, although I like his character in The Holiday (when he's less funny), he always seems to be in the same character from movie to movie. Surprisingly, I love and want to hug him (my curious self wanted to know if I could reach both of my arms around his body) in this movie and I am not even gay. Thanks for being the cutest panda ever, seriously (compared to his bearded face) and I love the scene when he was trying to find foods to eat because "I love to eat when I am depressed" - how real is that? We love too Po!
  • All the miniature of the characters definitely will be sold out in an hour! (they already released a Kung Fu Panda's game for PlayStation 3 - check it out here)
(for the rest of Kicking Butts Panda review, please visit my other blog, My Little Black Pot)

Hugs n Kisses (not me) | edited from smiles4angels

So, there you go. Sorry if I am missing out few posts in your blog. The laziness of holiday is drive me crazy (magnificently without even doing anything). For those who have live visitor's detector in their blog, and noticed me being there but left without giving any comment, don't be mad. I am just enjoying the sunshine from my window in front of my work desk, sunbathing while wearing a pair of sunglasses, (not that I think I am cool) it just I want to savor the rest of my holiday. See you soon!

Don't Blame Your Child and Go Watch Iron Man!

Picture from Flickr

Don't Blame Your Children

If you're one of my loyal readers, you should may notice that I was missing for couple of days. Truth to be told, I was involved in an accident (!). Unfortunately, I was still alive to rambling about myself in this blog. Well, that may be because my 'accident' was only involving a supporting wall in a shopping complex, my mum's car and myself. I was in hurried to watch the Iron Man and I definitely blame the wall to be built in such matter so that the parking space was very small and only suitable for a mini car.

My mum's car was scratched with yellow paint stained on it. Thank God my parents chose not to blame me. They said they don't want me to be traumatized by an accident. After all, it was my first car accident and it was not that bad after all. My younger brother had quite an unforgettable accident last year. Since then, he never ever use that particular road again.

A soothing word rather than an angry voice work well for me. I know when I have stepped outside the boundary and know when to use my cuteness to extend an apology to my parent. I frequently hear about parents that prefer to use a harder method of teaching to discipline their child, for those who taught on using that option, please make sure that the last thing you want is to make your child a worse person in the future. Several head up points (copy and edited) from Prevent Child Abuse America. Go and visit the site. It has many interesting tips for all.

Remember the purpose of discipline
It is to teach your child socially acceptable ways of expressing natural desires and drives. Discipline guides your child into adulthood. Not to be traumatized by it.

Successful discipline is geared to the child's developmental stage
Don't expect a child of any age to perform something he or she is not ready for. Take things slow and steady. Do not put any excessive pressure especially on the academic achievement.

Children need positive reinforcement
Reward your child for doing right with smile, hugs, attention, praise and thanks. Although for me, money is the best reward. I am pretty sure your children too in the same ship with me. LOL

Never hit a child
Hitting is not a useful discipline tool for your children. Hitting and other physical punishment are not effective because they teach a child that it is okay to hit people, make children much too angry to be sorry for what they have done. Plus, you can hurt a child physically and mentally.

Discipline is best taught by example
The lessons you teach your child come from what your child sees you do - not what you say. Child tends to make parent as his or her role model. You may be not rich like Donald Trump or perfect as Oprah Winfrey, but make yourself the best from what you have. One of my role models (I don't know why people usually have one role model only) is my dad.

If what you are doing is not working, change it!
Your best efforts, even those that worked in the past, may break down. Try to keep sight of your basic principles and adopt with the child development. The best way to do it is to spend more quality time with your child and observed what he or she latest behavior.
"The important thing is not whether your child behaves in the next few minutes or today or this week. The really important thing is how your child turns out 5, 10, or 20 years from now."

Go Watch Iron Man!

Robert Downey Jr. sure win my vote. At first, I was in doubt whether this not-that-old-but-looking-like-an-old-man could amaze the new audience (such as me, who do not read a single Iron Man comic). Nevertheless, his act and with the help of advance digital technology made me stayed put on my sit through the one hour and half hour movie (even though I almost freezing in cold in that cinema - note: Never wear a short while watch a movie).

As many people already review this movie, I rather not explain further. The bad thing is, as always, it portraits Muslim as terrorist. Other than that, the movie was good, enjoyable with wickedly funny speeches through out the movie, the casts were solid, plus you will see couple of funny robots too! That been said, to be fair, I will quote a piece of opinion from a fan of the Iron Man comic.
With a little tinge of shame and regret, my rare dalliances with the Iron Man character stemmed from a few one off comic books, as well as occasions during the teenage years of spending time in the arcade with those Marvel games, where Iron Man was one of my preferred characters because it came together with his incredible arsenal of weapons from repulsor beams to this gigantic cannon which accompanied the execution of some complex combo moves. There's something sexy about the red and gold suit of armour, and having an array of weapons at the disposal of a player, makes perfect sense for variety in dispatching your enemies. - imdb

Family or Lover

I watched Dan in Real Life and 27 Dresses this week. Both of the movies are standing on the same foot, LOVE. However, this is not quite 'normal' love story. Not that they are homosexual love story, it just that both main characters are in love with the same person his/her younger brother/sister loves. Well, we cannot blame them. Love is indeed blind. Poor little thing.

What if this happen to you? You're falling in love with someone that is very much loved by your brother or sister. Should you just tell your brother that you're in love with his girlfriend and asking him to back off? Or you will watch your sister married with the love that you believe is your true love?

Do you willing to sacrifice for your family? Or you should rather tell your brother/sister you love his/her lover?

Should be noted, that the lover also love you too (or still in the 'like' stage). Not for the one direction feeling :D

The First of Something

It has been quite a long time since my last movie review (American Gangster, which was not even a real movie review as I just insisted people to watch it and leave the reviews to the others). So, in the name of releasing tension after my dreadful Mass Transfer test (on Thursday), my friends and I watch The Great Debaters. Each time I want to write a review, I try hard not to read ahead other people reviews. Sometimes I can't resists it, but in this case, I succeed (but I do cheated myself by searching for Wiley College in Wikipedia. My bad).

Two days before, in my Islamic and Asian Civilizations lecture, with only my physical well being present (my mental and psychology was fully occupied for that evening test), I learned a new thing. I can do multiple tasks! One of my ear was plugged in with mp3, reading notes for the evening test, listening to the lecture and even managed to have a little conversation with my neighbor from time to time with my mouth filled with chewing gums.

So, in a brief but memorable moment, I heard about my lecturer talks about African-American people in the late of 16th century. How they were brought from Africa to America as a slave to work at cotton farms. As a slave, they do not have any human rights and so they must assimilate abide the American culture. That long day has slowly faded. With many of them have been given their deserved rights and even has a chance to be the President of United State (I really hope that Barack Obama will win over Hillary Clinton though that has nothing to do with this movie), it was really a rude awakening for me to watch The Great Debaters and witness all the racial segregation and violence.
"We do what we have to do, so we can do what we want to do."
Some people says that there are already so many movies about the "First of Something" and making another movie about it should be stopped (and in this movie, the first black underdog debating team from Wiley College to debates against Harvard and won the national championship). But for me, there is no harm to show to the younger generation (like me) how much the difficulty to pave a path. A path that can be walked easily today without having to deal with the thorny bush. This is not a typical story of an underdog sport team that will win their championship cup. It's more than that.

The movie was inspirational and absolutely moving (after all, this is another Oprah Winfrey production). I finished the movie around 3am and could only reduce my excitement level at 4am to get the much needed sleep. Denzel Washington (as Melvin B. Tolson) and Forest Whitaker (Dr. James Farmer Sr.) done their job awesomely. Nate Parker (as Henry Lowe) and Jurnee Smollett (Samantha Book with an "e") acts are memorable. However, the character of James Farmer Jr. (played by Denzel Whitaker) wins my heart the most. Young (only 14 years old), intelligent and has a prominent father, the character developed well through out the story. Plus, he looks like a young Sean Kingston to me. Ha ha

Isn't he looks like a young version of Sean Kingston?
Who is the judge? The judge is God. Why he is a God? Because he sign out all out off the losers and not my opponents. Who is your opponents? He doesn't exist. Why he doesn't exist? Because he is merely involved in two type of speak. Speak the truth? Speak the truth!
However, the movie does not exceed my expectation especially when it comes to the technical arts of debating. The film more focused on the moral and social values instead of the debates itself. Not that I have any problem with it. But, I do think that the movie should stressed more on the delivering skill and when they were doing research for the arguments. Audiences shouldn't have to wait until the third part of the movie to see the arts in it. I have been in debating team for several times, and have learned some of the skills quite well, thanks to my fierce language teacher.

The first of something always will be the most of important part of your life. The first time you walk, talk, going to the first date, the first day of your miserable marriage life, the first day you go to work, and many other first of something that will effect your life. And in this case, not only individual life, but the society at large. Thrust me, the more you learn about the first something, the more you will appreciate your life. Part of the history should never be forgotten.

What The Fu*K!

i have watched GOOD LUCK CHUCK. of course not 'legally'. Does it shown in Malaysia anyway?? i cannot believe it when i read about this movie's review on internet! They gave dreadful comments! the most decent i can get is this:
The director is first-timer Mark Helfrich, a film editor who has graduated to the next level. As is often the case in hit-and-miss comedies, the timing is off on too many of the jokes, which is why they aren't funny. This is almost always the director's fault. Plus, he has Cam [Jessica Alba] walk into a few too many objects. That sort of thing might work once or twice but overuse makes it tiresome. Good Luck Chuck doesn't shy away from nudity, except where Alba is concerned. There's plenty of naked flesh in an early montage during which Charlie starts exploring the benefits of being cursed. If Apatow is spoiling us, there are always movies like Good Luck Chuck to bring us back to the reality of the situation: most filmmakers in Hollywood are lazy. They would rather spit out formulaic stuff spiced up with a little sex and nudity than take the effort to make something that works on multiple levels. There are some great ideas in Good Luck Chuck. One would think the concept of a man not being able to have sex with his true love would open a vast ocean of comedic and dramatic possibilities. Yet the final screenplay is as devoid of real emotion as it is of real characters. At least Jessica Alba's legion of fans will have something to smile about. If nothing else, Helfrich has shown her in the best light. If only there was something worth seeing here other than her.
i have been always love Jessica Alba and she is a matter of fact is smoking hot in this movie. Even though she may not exposes [nakedly of course] her lower part of body through out entire movie, i still find her attractive. [big help comes after the glimpse of her breast, though ;P]

Honestly, the movie is quite funny, but not in the sense of Knocked Up's funny. Indeed, i think there is not even 1 funny line spoken! But the sexist remarks by Charlie's plastic surgeon friend, Dr. Stu [Dan Fogler] are definitely winning over me! Both Dane Cook and Jessica Alba are great in this movie ... they had me rollin'. Like I said, if you don't do the sex jokes well, then this isn't for you, but pretty much any college-aged (or college-minded) person will laugh their ass off at this movie. TRUST ME! i definitely will watch it over again with my male buddies anytime soon.

Movee Review : Bridge to Terabithia

When i sat down to watch Bridge to Terabithia, i did not know quite what to expect. From what i had seen in the trailers, i thought the movie would be something like Pan's Ladybrinth. Needless to say that i was surprised when actually seeing the movie. i shall not spoil the story for those who have yet to see the movie, but i will say that, in my opinion, this movie is for a more mature audience than one would think. Rather than being a fairytale for youngsters, the movie actually gives the viewer an inside look in a young boy's life and all the troubles he faces, concerning school, family and friends. The setting overall was a lot darker than expected as well.

i can be short about the acting though. The child-stars that play the lead roles did a great job and really brought the characters to life. One final aspect of the movie that deserves mentioning is the fact that it does not lean on special effects. Although there is a fair amount of nice CGI present in the film, the story dominates. Which in my opinion, is a lot better than the other way around. Overall, i found the movie very enjoyable, [and very much remind me to all those my wide imaginaries when i had as a kid], but i would advise parents of young children to find out more about the movie, before deciding on whether or not u'll let your kids watch it
